TITLE III GRANT ACTIVITY DIRECTOR

 

Basic Function:  Part-time, 21-24 hours per week, with possibility of additional assignments. Under the general direction of the Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant Project Director, the Title III Activity Director will provide support to the Outcomes Assessment Coordinator, Curriculum Design Coordinator, and Active Learning Technician in developing and implementing training, programs, and activities based on active learning strategies, assessment, and curriculum development. Primary responsibilities include: managing and monitoring grant activities; coordinating the development, delivery, and dissemination of professional development and resources; and, supervising project staff and administrative support for all phases of the Title III Grant.

1. Provde leadership to foster excellence in teaching and student learning, both in terms of research and practice.
2. Knowledge of current research in pedagogy, assessment, and curriculum.
3. Ability and experience managing a department or administrative unit within a budget.

6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; strong human relations and ability to maintain collaborative relationships with other professions.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Curriculum Planning, Assessment, Teaching and Learning

1. Help faculty explore and experiement with new models and tools in teaching and assessment through cooperation with Outcomes Assessment Coordinator, Curriculum Design Coordinator, and Active Learning Technician.
2. ?Provide information and resources on best practices, innovative curricula, and pedagogical issues, including those related to outcomes-based assessment and active learning strategies.
3. Facilitate mentoring programs for faculty.
4. Develop and maintain a digital commons of teaching and learning initiatives and resources through a dynamic web-based presence for the College.
5. Offer consultation on course design, teaching strategies, and meaningful assessment.
6. Develop and maintain a vision for educational growth of the College.
7. Manage the scheduling process for maximizing efficiency while maintaining educational outcomes.
8. Maintain the Title III Grant content and objectives through the development of active learning strategies.
9. Plan and deliver in-service workshops to all faculty on learning outcomes, assessment, and active learning, both in person and virtually.
10. Attend curriculum and other professional meetings or conferences as dictated by the Title III Strengthening Institution Grant guidelines.
11. Promotes innovation within the curriculum area; inspire engaging and innovative approaches, timely delivery, and current material, including virtual environments.
12. Collaborate with deans, faculty cohort members, and Title III grant personnel in assessing the quality of program curriculum.

 

Related Areas

1. Oversee Title III  programs, activities, communications, budget, and staff.
2. Work closely with the Project Director, the Outcomes Assessment Coordinator, the Curriculum Design Coordinator, the Active Learning Technician, the Task Force, and related internal committees in achieving the goals and functions of the Title III Grant.
3. Assist with recruiting and hiring of additional personnel necessary to fulfill the Title III requirements.
4. Participate in Title III committees and meetings; report accordingly to appropriate grant personnel.
5. Provide information for reports required by the Title III Project Director, Activity Director, the college, state and/or federal government in a timely fashion.

 

Other Duties

1. Participate in the long and short range planning of the college.
2. Serve on and provide leadership to committees as appropriate.
3. Actively participate in state and national organizations as appropriate to division programs and/or college initiatives.

Qualifications

Required –      Master’s degree.

                     Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education.

                     Experience with budgeting, grant programs, or educational administrative units.

 

Preferred –    Familiarity with federal Title III Grant programs.

                     Strong background in curriculum, assessment, and instruction; training or managing experience a plus.

Wage/Salary Range:  $23.00 to $28.00 per hour

PART-TIME COORDINATOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES

 

Basic Function:             Up to 21 hours per week, afternoons and evenings.  The purpose of the position of Coordinator of Library Services is to provide library services to NCC’s customers and to assist the Director of Library Services in the day-to-day operation of the library.

 

Desired Qualities and Characteristics:       

 

1.   Ability to identify library customer’s needs and provide services, activities, and instruction to meet those needs.

2.   Knowledge of library reference systems and services.

3.   Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of library work and of the library's computerized systems.

4.   Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

5.   Knowledge of computers and data base, spreadsheet, and word processing software.

6.   Good time management skills and ability to set priorities.

7.   Ability to handle several different tasks simultaneously.

8.   Ability to effectively supervise others.

9.   Ability to make group presentations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

 

1.   Provide reference services and assist students, faculty, staff, and other members of the College’s service area in developing information literacy skills, including formal and informal information literacy instruction sessions.

2.   Perform processing of library materials.

3.   Cataloging of library materials and assist with related routine collection maint enance including inventory and weeding.

4.   Assist in developing and providing library assessment tools.

5.   Evaluate collection to ascertain need for new material and make recommendations based on this research.

6.   Recommend policies and procedures to improve operations.

7.   Oversee customers and their use of the library maint aining the appropriate atmosphere and environment.

8.   Attend appropriate workshops and seminars to increase professional knowledge and skills.

9.   Participate in the college community, serving on committees as appropriate.

10.  Maintain inventory of office supplies; reorder as necessary.

11.  Assist in gathering and maint aining statistics as needed for library planning and reporting.

12.  Train, schedule, and supervise student employees.

13.  Perform interlibrary loan tasks including maint aining statistics for reporting purposes.

14.  Assist in the day-to-day operation of the library.

15.  Perform general library tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications:    Required –  Bachelor’s degree.

                                                Must be able to work evenings.

 

                           Preferred –             Library degree.

                                                Experience in an educational or library setting.

PART-TIME RECEPTIONIST/INFORMATION SERVICES

 

Basic Function:             Part-time, shared position – average 2 days/18-20 hours per week.  The Receptionist/Information Services will be responsible for the daily operation of the Information Center and provide support to the Business Office and the office of the Executive Director of College Operations and Finance.

 

Desired Qualities and Characteristics:       

 

1.     Demonstrate ability on office equipment and various software and skills in written and oral communications, proofreading, and spelling.

2.     Demonstrate skill in mathematics computation and telephone skills, office etiquette, and interpersonal skills.

3.     Demonstrate initiative, decision-making ability, and work with minimum supervision and have the ability to maintain confidentiality and commitment to Northwest Iowa Community College.

4.     Demonstrate professionalism in dealing with customers.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

 

  1.   Operating the PBX telephone system.

  2.   Providing information to visitors.

  3.   Typing of purchase orders.

  4.   Entering of vendors in Colleague.

  5.   Preparing the bank deposits.

  6.   Processing checks with bank electronically.

  7.   Preparing monthly printing, vehicle, and central supply charges and make monthly billings.

  8.   Scheduling college vehicles.

  9.   Preparing monthly bills and payroll checks for mailing and/or distribution.

10.   Assisting with Business Office functions.

11.   Providing recommendations for process improvement.

12.   Serving on various College committees and cross-functional teams as appropriate.

13.   Working effectively within a team environment.

14.   Other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Human Resources or the Executive Director of College Operations and Finance.

 

Qualifications: Required –  High school diploma or equivalent.

 

                           Preferred –             Diploma from secretarial training program.

                                                Recent secretarial experience.

 

Wage/Salary Range:  $8.70 to $9.70 per hour

FULL-TIME EVENING CUSTODIAN

 

Basic Function:             (2:30 to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday)  The Custodian will maint ain cleanliness of buildings and equipment in all respects; keep the Evening Custodial/Supervisor informed of incidents requiring action and/or replacement; handle minor repairs within their resources; assist or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by the Manager of Physical Facilities; recommend more efficient or better ways to complete tasks and improve safety; initiate and follow a preventive maint enance process; and perform daily and scheduled housekeeping duties as required.

Qualifications: Required –  High school diploma or equivalent.

 

                           Preferred –Graduate of building, grounds, and maint enance or equivalent program.

                                                More than two years of work experience.

 

Desired Qualities and Characteristics:       

1.   Experience working in custodial field or floor maint enance.

2.   Knowledge of floor care, terrazzo, tile and carpet, and floor care equipment.

3.   Knowledge of maintenance and custodial equipment.

4.   Skilled in operation of floor machines, buffers, extractor, wet vac, and auto scrubber.

5.   Able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

6.   Able to communicate and get along with co-workers

7.   Able to work alone without supervision.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  1.   Keeping accurate and up-to-date timesheets.

  2.   Signing out supplies taken from maint enance supply.

  3.   Knowledge of proper use of floor care equipment.

  4.   Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash and butt containers.

  5.   Stripping, scrubbing, rinsing, and refinishing and buffing floors.

  6.   Extracting and cleaning carpet.

  7.   Removing spots in carpet and on hard floors.

  8.   Cleaning entrance mats.

  9.   Washing windows, walls, ceilings, and light fixtures.

10.   Cleaning chalkboards, marker boards, and erasers.

11.   Cleaning and disinfecting restroom fixtures, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, floors, etc. 

12.   Replacing restroom supplies as necessary.

13.   Setting up tables and chairs for classes, meetings, and other events.

14.   Loading and unloading supplies and equipment.

15.   Knowing location and proper use of fire fighting equipment.

16.   Being responsible for the security of buildings and contents.

17.   Checking that all students are out, lights are off, and windows and doors are locked and the building is secure before leaving.

18.   Opening the buildings for classes when assigned.

19.   Performing security check during weekends and holidays.

20.   Cleaning all tools, equipment, and supplies after each use and storing them in their proper place.

21.   Removing snow as needed.

22.   Spreading ice melt on sidewalks as needed.

23.   Following instructions for proper use of cleaning supplies.

24.   Turning on or off the heating/cooling equipment when assigned.

25.   Putting away school vehicles in the evenings when assigned.

26.   Keeping the Evening Custodial/Supervisor informed of incidents requiring action and/or repair.

27.   Serving on college committees.

28.   Team members are:

      a.   expected to work cooperatively and promote the success of all team mates;

      b.   required to communicate with each other so each team member is optimally efficient on each shift;

      c.   to confront unavoidable conflict with other team members courteously with a focus on a solution to the conflict; and

      d. required to talk out problems with the party involved in a professional courteous manner and only as a last resort ask the supervisor to get involved.

29.   Any other duties as assigned by the Evening Custodial/Supervisor or the Director of Physical Facilities.

 

Wage/Salary Range:  $8.70 to $9.70 per hour plus $.35 shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

PART-TIME CUSTODIAN RESIDENCE HALLS

 

Basic Function:             The part-time custodian will maint ain cleanliness of the college residence halls and equipment in all respects; monitor the area for unusual activity and report various activity to the supervisor; recommend more efficient or better ways to complete tasks and improve safety; initiate and follow a preventive maint enance process; assist or fill in temporarily on other jobs as assigned by the Evening Custodian/Supervisor; keep the Evening Custodian/Supervisor informed of incidents requiring action and/or replacement; and perform daily and scheduled housekeeping duties as required.

 

Qualifications:              Preferred –High school diploma or equivalent, or custodial training. 

 

Desired Qualities and Characteristics:       

1.   Dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning skills.

2.   Residential, commercial, educational institution, or nursing home cleaning experience.

3.   Carpet extraction knowledge.

4.   Ability to follow a schedule.

5.   Self-starter.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

 

1.      Daily cleaning of assigned areas.

2.      Reporting any maint enance problems.

3.      Any other duties assigned by the Evening Custodian/Supervisor or Manager of Physical Facilities.
