Tech Prep

What is Tech Prep?
Tech Prep is a high school and community college program of study in a specific career field. It provides a minimum of a three-year sequential combination of high level academic education and high level technical career skills. Linking high school and college career and technical education programs, Tech Prep offers students relevant learning that leads to a certificate, diploma, A.A.S. Degree, or transition to a four-year degree. The students have the opportunities to explore career options and gain specific employment skills. There are Tech Prep classes taught by qualified instructors in all of the 15 high schools of Area IV.

What classes are eligible?
The high school counselor will advise students which Tech Prep classes are available. The student should contact the counselor to determine which classes are appropriate based on his/her ability and preparation. The student may enroll in more than one Tech Prep class.

What about credit transfer?
It is the student’s responsibility before enrolling in Tech Prep classes to first check with the high school counselor and then the institution being considered for transfer to determine which classes will be accepted for credit.

Where will I attend class?
Classes are taught in the student’s high school by qualified instructors during the normal school schedule.
