Emergency Medical Technician - Hybrid Course


Northwest Iowa Community College and Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs have teamed up to offer the EMT course in an on-line version. You will be required to attend 5 all-day Saturday sessions in order to complete the required skills practice and competencies. Course #54190 orientation class will be held on August 14, 2017 starting at 6:00 pm. The course is scheduled to conclude in December 2017, followed by National Registry Practical and computer-based testing. Course #56751 orientation class will be held on January 15, 2018 starting at 6:00 pm. This course is scheduled to conclude in May 2018, followed by National Registry Practical and computer-based testing.

This course will cover the 2011 Scope of Practice changes. Modules presented include: Preparation of the EMT; Airway Management; Patient Assessment; Medical/Behavioral Emergencies; OB/GYN; Trauma; Infants and Children; Ambulance Operations, and additional skills. Clinical time at an emergency room is required in addition to the on-line hours. College credit is available. Minimum class size of 6 is required.

Need-based tuition assistance is available.

Prerequisites: Must be 17 years old at the start of class, be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, and physically capable of performing basic EMT skills. You MUST have access to high-speed internet at your residence to take this course. You must bring a credit or debit card the first night of class for completion of the on-line background check.
