Northwest Iowa Community College Annual Report From students to staff, Northwest Iowa Community College is doing great things. Awards from the state and national level were awarded throughout the year: • Stephanie Hinkey (2014 graduate of the Pharmacy Technician program and current Health Information Technology student) was named to the All-Iowa Academic Team. • Hannah Wielenga (recent graduate of the Administrative Secretarial program) was invited to compete in Certiport’s 2014 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship in the Microsoft Word 2010 Competitive Track. “ • 11 NCC students received either 1st or 2nd place medals at State SkillsUSA. Two of those medalists (Brian Regil and Alexander Vust) went on to receive the honor of being ranked 3rd in the nation at the National SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, MO. • Larry Hoekstra (NCC Board Trustee) was awarded the John P. Kibbe Award from the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT) for his great service and dedication to his school and board. • Northwest Iowa Community College’s Automotive program was voted “One of the Top 4 in the Nation” by Tomorrow’s Tech 2013 School of the Year Contest. It was also recertified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). • Roxann Moriston, a second year Photography student, received a “Merit Print” ranking on her submission. She was one of five that achieved this honor out of the State Student Association. • NCC’s Industrial Instrumentation and Control students took home first and seventh place awards at the District 6 Instrumentation Systems and Automation (ISA) Student Games. • The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program named NCC as one of the Nation’s Top 150 community colleges. This prize is the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges and recognizes institutions for exceptional student outcomes. • TheBestSchool.org ranked NCC #11 in their ranking of community colleges in the United States. The criteria for this award is based on qualities such as students’ success in achieving an Associate’s degree and/or transferring to a four-year college, college practices that encourage diversity, and the success at minimizing student debt. • Create A Career, an online resource for career information, has recognized NCC in a recent article titled “The 25 Best Community Colleges in the United States.” NCC ranked 15th overall and was the only Iowa community college to make the list. • StateUniversity.com 2013 also gave NCC the title of Safest Public Two-year College in Iowa. “With a list of awards, certifications and accomplishments like this, we are extremely proud of the people who work for us, the quality education and programs we provide, and the students who strive to do great things with their education,” said Dr. Alethea Stubbe, President.
